Senior Living Facility

Senior Housing News (SHN) asked students to participate in a senior housing architecture and design challenge.  The program is meant to get students interacting and familiar with the process needed to develop housing solutions for the growing elderly population.

The students are designing for a client that would like to develop a community that will provide 19 units of assisted living with a community area or "town hall."  The facility will be placed in the coastal town of Scarborough, Maine.  The level of care offered and they type of residents are open to the students to decide.  One of the key goals is to provide future residents with options that enable quality care in a stigma-free residential environment.

Students will name the facility and choose the site location with in Scarborough, Maine.

The project focuses on research, the creation of final design documentation, and collaboration between students.  The designs should consider the future development and growth of the elderly population, allowing for innovations in technology and medical care as well as changes and differences between generations who will eventually be using the spaces.
